The Countdown Begins To Distinguished and Success!

Our Spring conference was flying high!  Congratuations to Division A for a fabulous time!  Scott Pritchard is our District 33 Tall Tales winner and Carolyn Pelletier is our International winner. Orlando, here we come!  I enjoyed seeing you at the conference--we had 200 registered--the most in several years.   All of the contestants were marvelous. We learned from the best in our district and in the world at the Spring conference (May 4 and 5th, 2012) in Bakersfield, CA.  NBA star, fellow Toastmaster, and motivational speaker Mark Eaton was our keynote, and World Champion Lance Miller launched our weekend in style on Friday night as part of the Hall of Fame festivities. We celebrated many of your accomplishments at the Hall of Fame--very exciting!

The countdown has started and we need each person commitment!    Please commit to each of you bringing in at least 4 members-new, reinstated or duel.  Contact our LGM, Kathy Choate, with all your ideas for new clubs--there is still time to charter! Get ALL Your Club's Dues In!  Let's continue our march to achieve our Dreams and Friendships to Distinguished.

      <!
       People of District 33 Toastmasters,

I look forward in serving you as your District Lt. Governor of Education & Training for the 2011-2012 Toastmaster year. With a new year comes new hope, new faith, and new dreams. When it comes to achieving a successful year, we have great opportunities and greater desires that are front of us. We also have opportunities to embellish the mission of Toastmasters by becoming success in our own right through fostering self confidence and personal growth.

At every corner, we have open doors to have this District become Distinguished on ALL levels. This can be done through the following incentives:

      Triple Star Award

The Triple Star Award is awarded to individual Toastmasters that achieved three educational during the Toastmaster year. From July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, you can have the opportunity to earn this beautiful award for yourself. These awards will be handed out at the Fall Conference in Fresno and the Spring Conference in Bakersfield.

      Dreams and Friendship Ribbon

Does your TM club have an active mentorship program for the 2011-2012 year? If so, then your club can get a beautiful Dreams and Friendship ribbon. Plenty of ribbons were handed out at the Area & Division Governor Training in Santa Maria on July 9th. More will be handed out at Division Contests and District Conferences. If your club has an active mentorship program, please contact your Toastmaster guy – Mr. I-I-I!!!

      The Grand Slam Program

With great anticipation, I give you a brand new program that will allow everyone to HIT A HOME RUN!! This is called The Grand Slam Program. This program will come in two different seasons: The Fall Education Classic and the Spring Training.

      FALL RECOGNITION CLASSIC (July 1
      st to October 22nd)
      – If any club receives 4 or more Distinguished Club Program goals (one of which must be Goal 7 – 4 new members), they will receive a $25 gift certificate from the District!! This will be handed out at the Fall Conference in Fresno!!

      SPRING TRAINING  (January 1
      st to April 27th)
      – If any club becomes Distinguished or better, they have an opportunity to round the bases in the following manner (this will be handed out at the Spring Conference in Bakersfield):

Distinguished (Single) - $20 gift certificate

Select Distinguished (Double) - $30 gift certificate
      President’s Distinguished (Triple) - $40 gift certificate
10 out of 10 Goals (HOME RUN!!) - $50 gift certificate!!

** NOTE: To be eligible for this, a club must have either a net gain of 5 members or 20 members by April 27th

We all have a chance to learn, share, and grow throughout this Toastmaster year. By the time we accomplish the big picture and achieve these goals for ourselves and our community, we all become winners in more ways than one!! Together we all CAN do this!!

That is all I have for now. Take care and thank you for your time and attention.

      Sincerely,

      Jesse Oakley I-I-I, DTM

If You Build It, They Will Come!
In the movie Field of Dreams, Kevin Kostner portrayed a farmer who tore down his financially important cornfield in Iowa, to build a baseball field. He was told, “If You Build It, They Will Come!” If you build it, District 33, build people, build clubs, build friendships and dreams, they will come. This year we will create a magnetic, irresistible, magical attraction that others will be drawn to and will want what we have to offer.
      Our focus to increase membership:
      1. To retain our current members and existing clubs. John Rogers, DTM, is this year’s District Club Coach Chair. Having been a member of Toastmasters for almost ten years, he comes to serve with a wealth of experience and commitment.
      2. To attract new members and grow our clubs to charter strength.
      3. To charter one new club per area. Our District’s New Club Chair is the very capable and talented Sherrie Parker, DTM, PDG.
Our focus is to ensure that each club member achieves his/her own goals. When this is accomplished, our Clubs, Areas, Divisions and ultimately, District will be President’s Distinguished!!  Here's how we will achieve this:

        Membership Building Contests:

      • Toastmasters International’s Smedley, Talk Up Toastmasters!, Beat the Clock and Individual Sponsorship ContestsThe tried and true that gets results!
      • Open Houses
In the months of August, January and May, if you invite 15 non-Toastmasters to your club, you will receive TI’s newly branded membership pin. Plus, if your club adds four or more members during one of these months, your club will receive a $20 gift certificate to TI catalog and a Dreams and Friendship Ribbon for your banner!!

      • If You Build It, They Will Come Contest
The club with the most number of its members in attendance and/or the club with ALL of its members at either the Fall or Spring District Conference will celebrate their team win with a $25 gift certificate toward a Pizza Party. Let’s promote early and often and fill the bleachers!
      • Step Up to the Plate Contest
You will have batting opportunities from May 1 to June 24. The Club in each Division that has the most rookie players join their team will receive a $25 gift certificate to TI catalog plus a Dreams and Friendship Ribbon for your club banner!!

Let’s do everything within our power to go the distance, to hit that home run clear out of the park for District 33! If you believe in the impossible, the incredible comes true. Zig Ziglar said, “You can get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

Let’s commit to building people and help them achieve their goals. Commit to building clubs whereby others can experience the benefits of Toastmaster membership. And commit to building friendships and dreams together.

Remember, If You Build It, They Will Come! Together, we can build it!!

      Kathy Choate, DTM

District 33 Lt. Governor of Marketing 2011-2012
